Lagoa das Sete Cidades – Portuguese for ‘Lake of the Seven Cities’-  is a lake in the crater of Sete Cidades in the district of Ponta Delgada on the Portuguese Azores island of Sao Miguel. The lake consists of two sub-lakes, namely the larger northern part of Lagoa Azul (Portuguese for ‘blue lake’) and the smaller southern part Lagoa Verde (Portuguese for ‘green lake’), which are connected by a narrow passage, over which a road bridge leads , The view from the crater rim to the lake is considered one of the biggest attractions of the archipelago.

The two lakes are  also one of the most visited and incredible sights of the archipelago.one of the largest tourist attractions in Azores.

Access : Coordinates:37.86667, -25.78333 / The capital of Sao Miguel and also of the Azores is Ponta Delgada. It is in Ponta Delgada that is the Caldeira das Sete Cidades, approximately 17 km from the city.
TAP flies to Terceira and Sao Miguel with a stop in Lisbon or Porto. There are internal flights and ferries between the islands.

  • ‘Vista do Rei’, viewpoint which provides impressive views over the lakes / Ruin of the Monte Palace : the abandoned hotel , At the top of the crater, a luxury hotel was built that eventually went to ruin.

  •  Church of San Nicolas: Catholic church built in the mid-nineteenth century ,  It is located in the town of Sete Cidades, inside the volcano./
  •  Mata Do Canario , The Mata Do Canario trail is a 7.3 mile hike that offers stunning views of the lakes
