Le Grau-du-Roi  is a small picturesque fishing village in the Gard department in the Occitania region of southern France. The town could also be called Aqua du Roi Surrounded by fine sand beaches , canals, lagoon, harbour and marinas . Le Grau-du-Roi was founded by Italian immigrants at the end of the 19th century in an inhospitable zone between sea and ponds at the mouth of the Vidourle into the Mediterranean Sea. Until the 1920s, the city’s economic activities were entirely limited to fishing. Thereafter, tourism became increasingly important.

In the late 1960s, the construction of a new marina was started. Today it has become Port Camargue, Europe’s largest leisure port. The ponds around Le Grau-du-Roi are home to numerous wild flamingos.
