The Ale stones (or Ales stenar) is the name of a 67-meter-long megalithic complex located near Ystad, in the Skåne region, in southern Sweden.
The complex is located in the municipality of Kåseberga, overlooking the Baltic Sea, 10 kilometers southeast of the city of Ystad, in the Skåne region, in southern Sweden.
The monument consists of 59 boulders (the weight of which varies from 500 to 1,800 kg) and depicts a ship. This “stone” ship is 67 m long and 19 m wide at its widest point, and its bow, on which is placed a block larger than the others, faces east.
According to legend, the famous Ovav Tryggvason, a Viking commander, was buried here along with his ship, and the stones laid out faithfully preserve the memory of the heroic Vikings.
The stones are Currently a much-visited attraction.
