Assinghausen is a village in Olsberg, Hochsauerlandkreis district ,in Upper Sauerland , a rural, hilly area in North Rhine-Westphalia ,Germany.
Assinghausen is located on the upper reaches of the Ruhr, six kilometers south of Olsberg on the B 480 towards Winterberg. A number of well-kept old half-timbered houses with carved wood fillers and inscriptions enliven the townscape. A building that characterizes the townscape is the Catholic parish church of St. Katharina. In addition, the travel store, the old tithe barn, is a listed building. The Coastal Chapel is also worth seeing. Another listed building is the Josefsheim, a former monastery and sisters’ house.
Since July 6, 2007 Assinghausen belongs to the 6 rose villages of Germany. The residents have transformed the place into a fantastic rose garden. From around May to September, visitors indulge in beguiling scents and admire the lavish variety of colors of the “Queen of Flowers”. More than 200 varieties of roses fascinate not only botanists and garden lovers.
