The ancient city of Gerasa was part of the so-called Decapolis alliance.<br \/>\nThe city was founded by Semitic peoples in the i. e. in the 4th century in an area that was already inhabited in the Neolithic period. It became an important center thanks to the caravan routes passing through here and trade.
