Castlerigg Stone Circle is a megalithic cromlech structure ,Located near the city of Keswick , in the Lake District National Park, North West England, United Kingdom.

The tallest stone is more than two meters, the heaviest is about 16 tons. The stones stand in the form of a slightly flattened circle with a diameter of 29 to 32 meters. Inside the cromlech on the eastern side there are ten more stones, forming an almost rectangular figure. The construction dates back to 3200 BC. e. , making it the oldest cromlech in Britain or even Europe.
There is a legend that it is impossible to count how many stones there are in Castlerigg , each new count will give a new result. The official number of stones is 40.
Castlerigg considered perhaps the most atmospheric of all British stone circles ,thanks to fabulous views of the stones with the mountain of Helvellyn as a backdrop.
