Gura Humorului is a small town in the county of Suceava , in the historic southern Bucovina region , in northeastern Romania.

Gura Humorului is a small town in the county of Suceava , in the historic southern Bucovina region , in northeastern Romania.

Gura Humorului is located in the central part of Suceava County in the eastern part of the Eastern Carpathians. The city owes its name to its location at the mouth of the Humor River and is  home of numerous tourist attractions, some of particular importance. Moreover, The place is particularly popular with tourists because of its convenient and central location to the Moldavian monasteries. In Gura Humorului there are a few churches, a synagogue and an old Jewish cemetery.
In the vicinity of the city there are the Orthodox monasteries Voronets and Khumor,one of the most important tourist attractions of the city, which attracts a lot of tourists. The famous monastery is considered the Sistine Chapel of Eastern Europe , the site included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

  • Gura Humorului acquired the status of a tourist resort of national interest through the Decision of the Government of Romania.
  • The Voroneț Monastery, a historical monument, dating back to 1488, is located in the Voroneț neighborhood.
  • At the beginning of the 19th century, the city was quite multinational. Germans, Poles, Jews, Ukrainians and others lived in Hura-Humor.
  • Before World War II, the city had a significant Jewish community. In 1998, the Gura Humorului Jewish Community was founded, a community of former Jewish residents of Gura Humorului that aims to preserve the memory of Jewish life in the city.
