HMS Warrior, nicknamed “the Black Serpent”, was the Royal Navy’s first iron-hulled battleship launched in 1860. It was built to respond to the 1859 launch of the French battleship Gloire. Its name is also that of a class of ships which includes only one other unit: the Black Prince.  When built, Powered by steam and sail she was the largest, most heavily armed and best armored warship of her time. But this success was short-lived, because the development of the steam navy on the one hand and the development of armor with battleships on the other hand, would supplant the Warrior around fifteen years after its creation.
Warrior was saved from scrapping due to the efforts of the Maritime Trust. As the world’s first ironclad , she was recognized as one of the Royal Navy’s most important historic warships.
HMS Warrior is the only surviving large Victorian warship , it is listed as part of the National Historic Fleet and Today It has become a museum ship and can be visited in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard , England ,UK.
