The Kaiwo Maru is a historic Japanese sailing training ship rigged as a four-masted barque.

The Kaiwo Maru  was built in 1930 in Kobe and originally served as a Training Vessel for officers of the Japanese merchant navy. The Kaiwo Maru made various voyages to the USA, Hawaii and other Pacific ports. During World War II, the yards were removed and the ship was used for the Ministry of Posts  as a cargo motor sailor within Japanese waters. After the war, it was used to repatriate Japanese citizens – both civilian and military. Since 1952 she has been sailing again as a sailing training ship and has also visited the USA, Canada and the US East Coast. In 1989 she was replaced by the new Kaiwo Maru. In her almost 60-year naval career, she has traveled a total of 49 times around the world.
Recognizing the ship’s historical and cultural value, it was designated “Naval Heritage”.
The Kaiwo Maru is now moored as a museum ship in the port of Imizu in Toyama Province..

Location : Imizu ,in Toyama Prefecture, Japan.
