Solheimasandur Beach is a black sand beach on the south coast of Iceland that’s home to the US Navy DC-3 plane wreckage.

The plane wreck in Iceland is all that remains of a US Navy Douglas Super DC-3 which crash landed here in 1973, whilst operating a supply mission between Hofn Hornafjordur Airport and Stokksnes, Iceland. It used to be possible to drive a car along the beach directly to the plane, but now the road is closed and you have to leave the car in the parking lot right next to the track. The owner of the land closed the access due to careless tourists who drove along the beach in SUVs and tore up the land. This means that it is not possible to reach the plane by car along the beach. The only way to get there now is on foot. About 4 km and 40-45 minutes one way.

The wreckage of the plane’s fuselage remains relatively intact, and consists The worlds most famous DC3 wreck which has made it a  all-time favorite photography destinations on the planet.
