The stone is about 4-5 meters high and it was created by the influence of sea waves over many thousands of years. In recent years, it has been arranged for better access for spectators, a gravel path leads to a wooden platform that gives a good angle to the phenomenon. The path and terrace have a wheelchair-friendly design. Kannesteinen  is a popular photo motif and a symbol for Vågsøy municipality.
