The Kasubi Tombs are the tomb and burial place of the kings (Kabakas) of Buganda on the Kasubi hill in Kampala, the capital of Uganda.
They are considered to be the union of the nation’s historical, religious and cultural values and the spiritual center of Baganda. Nowhere else in the kingdom is religion so actively practiced as here. The Kasubi Tombs are also a good example of the architecture of the Baganda.
The Kasubi Toms have been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. They were largely destroyed in a fire in 2010 and have been on the Red List of Endangered World Heritage since then.
At present, there is practically nothing to look at, since the fire caused great harm, and it is not clear when the reconstruction will end. This does not mean that visitors should bypass the tombs of Kasubi, as professional guides and caretakers can tell a lot and have an excellent tour.

There is no working rail traffic to Kampala. There is an old railway from Kenya, but it has been out of service for a long time. Negotiations are in progress and there is hope of a restoration, but in that case it will be several years into the future./ By plane :
Most people come to Uganda by air, and then land at Entebbe Airport. Entebbe is usually said to be more famous than Kampala when it was at Entebbe the famous hijab drama took place in 1976. From Entebbe to Kampala it is about 42 kilometers – there are always a number of taxi drivers outside. Cost 70,000 – 100,000 shs depending on how well you negotiate./ By bus : Good bus connections with Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania.
Highlights :
- The complex consists of four royal tombs, where the last of the kings was buried only 40 years ago. All princes and princesses, descendants of the four Kabakas kings, are also buried behind the main shrine.
- The 30-hectare complex is a spiritual sanctuary for many members of the Baganda. The Kasubi hill is divided into three areas: the main grave in the west,an area with buildings and cemeteries beyond , a large agricultural area in the east.
