Lübbenau/Spreewald is a town in the Upper Spree-Lusatian district in the federal state of Brandenburg , located about 80 kilometers southeast of Berlin, Germany. Due to its position, the historic town is known as the gateway to the Spree Forest.
Libenau was first mentioned in a document in 1315, but is believed to be a much older settlement due to excavations under the castle showing an 8th or 9th century settlement. From 1364 to 1635, Libenau was part of the Kingdom of Bohemia and then until 1815 Libenau was part of the electorate of Saxony. From 1815 to 1918, Libenau belonged to the Kingdom of Prussia.
Libenau offers a multitude of sights. Starting from the old town, visitors can take a traditional boat ride or visit the castle with its landscaped park. There are bike paths to neighboring villages, and ferry lines are a favorite among tourists.

- The well-known Spreewald is located southeast of Berlin in Brandenburg. The Spree branches out into numerous streams here. - Lübbenau has a 19th century castle, built between 1817 and 1839, on the site of the ruins of a previous castle dating from the 8th or 9th century. Lübbenau Castle, surrounded by a park laid out according to plans by Peter Joseph Lenné, is now a hotel. Yhe parish church of St. Nikolai in the old town , Ehm-Welk-Strasse.
- The history of the city walls dates back to the Middle Ages, and the museum next to the wall shows the entire history of the city.
- One of the most popular boat trips in Lübbenau is the approximately 5-hour route through Lehde to the popular tourist spot Wotschofska and back.
