The palaces, temples and homes located at 2430 m above sea level in the Peruvian Andes. It is also called “The Lost City of the Incas”. It was created as the sacred mountain residence of the great Inca ruler Pachacuti, a century before his empire fell, that is, around 1440, and functioned until 1532, when the Spanish invaded the empire’s territory. In 1532, all its inhabitants mysteriously disappeared. Although the site was known to the locals, it remained unknown to the Spanish during the colonial period, as well as to the rest of the world, until the American historian Hyrum Bingham III popularized it in 1911.
This marvel is one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world ,it was voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in a worldwide Internet poll , it was declared a Historical Reserve of Peru in 1981 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.
Today “The Lost City of the Incas” in the Andes is a photographer’s dream.
