The Pha That Luang is a a gold covered Buddhist stupa which is located in Vientiane, the capital and largest city of Laos.
According to local Lao people, Pa Tat Luang was originally a Hindu temple in the 1st century. Buddhist missionaries from the Mauryan Empire who were sent by Emperor Ashoka, according to tradition, brought a holy relic (a bone of the Buddha) to the stupa. Later, this temple was turned into a Khmer temple, which fell apart after the collapse of the Khmer Empire.
Luang Pagoda and is one of the largest Buddha stupas in Laos (90m wide x 90m wide and 44m high) That Luang houses a Khmer statue of Jayavarman VII, the last great king of Angkor, testifying to Vientiane’s historical links with the Khmer Empire.
That Luang considered the most significant architectural monument and national symbol of Laos , the structure is depicted on the Laotian national emblem.
