Pico Cão Grande ,the most famous landmark in São Tomé

Pico Cão Grande or “Great Dog Peak” is an iconic needle-shaped pinnacle of volcanic rock in the island nation of São Tomé in the Obo National Park.

At 386 meters high, Pico Cão Grande  is one of the most impressive natural hills in  Africa. The needle-shaped mountain is made of volcanic rock and is surrounded by dense jungle with giant ferns infested with snakes that thrive in the humid climate.
Currently São Tomé’s most famous natural attraction – this absolutely bizarre volcanic mountain ,  attracts a small group of recreational climbers each year. Despite the fact that reaching the top is an extremely difficult task, nevertheless, it was conquered. This was first done by a group of climbers from Portugal in 1975.

  • This miracle is located in the south of the island of Sao Tome, which belongs to the state of Sao Tome and Principe, which is located on an archipelago in the Gulf of Guinea off the coast of Central Africa almost on the equator.
