From northwest to southeast, the five villages of Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore are lined up along the steep coast of the Riviera di Levante.
The region is protected as a national park in which nothing can be built or changed. In 1997, the Cinque Terre, along with Porto Venere and the islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto, were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In Cinque Terre, the shores are rocky and steep, the beaches are stone or pebble, with the exception of the sandy beach in Monterosso. The villages have preserved medieval defenses against pirates. Manarola and Riomaggiore are connected by the picturesque Road of Love (Italian: Via dell’Amore).
Millions of travelers come here every year to enjoy the scenery .Multi-tiered houses painted with all the colors of the rainbow ,cliffside villages, street cafes and small workshops these are the views depicted on the most popular postcards of the Cinque Terre which  consists one of the most photogenic places in the world.
