The Mausoleum of Sultan Sanjar located on the territory of the State Historical and Cultural Park “Ancient Merv” near the city of Bayramaly, Turkmenistan.

The tomb was built in 1157 following the death of Ahmad Sanjar, the sultan of the Great Seljuk Empire. The mausoleum has a square base with a side length of 27 meters. On the two-story substructure there was a 17 meter high dome covered with turquoise tiles. The mausoleum was originally part of a complex including a mosque and a vast courtyard and palace.
Inside the mausoleum there is a cenotaph commemorating Sultan Sanjar. His body was taken to an unknown location before the Mongol invasion.
This mausoleum was recently restored under UNESCO administration and with UNESCO funds. Currently the tomb is part of The State Historical and Cultural Park “Ancient Merv”, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
