Trujillo is a Spanish small town in the province of Caceres, in the autonomous community of Spain of Extremadura.
After the invasion of the Moors, the city became one of their most important strongholds in the region. It is known that in 1186 the Castilians made several attempts to recapture the settlement from the Arabs, but they ended in failure. The Moors were expelled from Trujillo only on January 25, 1232, during the reign of Ferdinand III of Castile.
The historic center of the small town, which is also known as the “cradle of the conquistadors”, is recognized as a cultural asset in the Conjunto historico-artistico category.
Almost all of the city’s significant buildings are located on the main square (Plaza Mayor), including numerous palaces and arcaded houses from the time of the conquest (conquista), including the Palacio de commissioned by Hernando Pizarro, a brother of the conquistador Francisco Pizarro, in 1562 Los Marqueses de la Conquista.
Trujillo is an important tourist center that attracts tourists with its numerous medieval monuments. At the top of the hill occupied by the city stands a Moorish castle.
Trujillo has a famous son, the Spanish conqueror Francisco Pizarro. The conquerors Francisco de Orellana and Diego García de Paredes also come from Trujillo.
Access : Coordinates: 39.465278, -5.878889 / Trujillo is located on the A-5 motorway about 250 km southwest of Madrid and 50 km east of Caceres. The city can be reached via exit 253 from Madrid or Badajoz or Merida. From Caceres take the N-521.

- Trujillo Castle : the castle is a mixture of Arab structures from the 9th and 10th centuries, followed by additions from Spanish builders in the 13th and 14th centuries.
- Church of Santa Maria la Mayor : The Iglesia de Santa Maria la Mayor sits enthroned on the hill above the city. It was probably built over the walls of a mosque in the 13th century after the reconquest. It was rebuilt in the 16th century. Romanesque and Gothic elements have been preserved.
- Palacio de la Conquista : palace of the Marquis of the Conquest or Palace of the Shield is a Renaissance-style building located in the main square of the Spanish city of Trujillo, in Extremadura.
- Plaza Mayor : Plaza Mayor with its fountain, around which historical houses are grouped, is the center of the city.The square has an irregular shape. It is one of the most beautiful in Spain.Here is the monument to the city’s most famous son, the conqueror of Peru, Francisco Pizzarro.
- Plaza de toros : The Trujillo Bullring is a bullring located in the Extremaduran city of Trujillo. It is located on the outskirts of the urban area on the route of the Cañada Real del Puerto de Miravete. The square was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest by the Junta de Extremadura.
- The Iglesia de San Martin de Tours, built from around 1450 to 1564, dominates the square. Its interior has a single nave, but has several side chapels; it is spanned by a late Gothic star vault.
- The Museo Casa Pizarro is located in the house where Francisco Pizarro was born and offers a wealth of information on the history of the conquest of the Inca Empire.
- The Museo de la Coria presents various things that have to do with the Spanish conquest of America.
- Palacio de Orellana Pizarro : The 16th century palace in Plaza de Don Juan Tena has a plateresque patio. It was built for Francisco de Orella, who discovered the Amazon.
- Palacio Marquesas de la Conquistas : The magnificent palace on the Plaza Mayor, in which the Pizarros family lived, was financed, like many aristocratic palaces, with gold from the New World.
- Easter festival- Trujillo Cheese Fair : This unique festival includes singing, dancing, drums, food and drinks, and some typical costumes.on Easter weekend.takes place from the end of April to the beginning of May.
- Cheese Festival : all cheese-related events (along with lots of wine). / Domingo de Resurreción. Feast of the Resurrection is celebrated in the Plaza Mayor in the morning. The people gather in festive clothes on the plaza.

Go next : Cáceres. Renaissance city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is 50 km west of Trujillo / Merida. With the numerous well-preserved Roman buildings and a very interesting museum is 90 km south. The city is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site / Guadalupe. The Royal Monastery of Guadalupe can be reached via the EX 208 and EX 102. It is about 80 km away. The monastery is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
