Vuokatti is a village - tourist and sports center , in the municipality of Sotkamo, Kainuu province, in eastern Finland.

Vuokatti is a village – tourist and sports center ,  in the municipality of Sotkamo, Kainuu province, in eastern Finland.

The slopes are located on the Vuokatinvaara hill (345 meters above sea level). In total, the resort has 14 slopes of varying difficulty (8 blue, 5 red, 1 black), 8 ski lifts, including 2 chair lifts, equipment rental and service points, as well as cafes and restaurants right on the slopes. The Vuokatti slopes offer freestyle skiing, slopestyle skiing, a superpipe (Olympic standard halfpipe) and a FIS slalom run. The maximum duration of the descent is 1100 m. The capacity of the lifts is 10,400 people/hour. In the vicinity of the resort there are about 150 km of ski slopes (32 km of which are illuminated). In October 2000, the world’s first tunnel for year-round skiing, 1,210 m long, was opened (refrigeration units maintain negative temperatures, which helps preserve the snow cover)
Thanks to its well-developed infrastructure, the resort is especially popular among family tourists with children and professional athletes. In 2012, Europe’s first indoor amusement park, Angry Birds Activity Park, with a total area of 8,700 m², opened in Vuokatti. Vuokatti is home to the Snowpolis Technology Park, which specializes in projects in the fields of health, tourism and sports (including winter sports all year round).Tourists are offered snowmobiling, dog and reindeer sledding, cycling and walking, ice skating on a skating rink and on a frozen lake, winter fishing and ice swimming.

Highlights :

  • The ski school, recognized as the best in Finland in 2009 and 2013, has 50 professional teachers trained by the Finnish National Ski Instructors Association Suomen Hiihdonopettajat Ry. There is also a tunnel for year-round snowboarding.
  • For the summer : Vuokatti has an 18-hole golf course and Frisbee golf facilities. There are also opportunities for canoeing, RIB boating, roller skating and skateboarding, jeep safaris, archery, horse riding, swimming, etc. Local lakes and rivers are rich in fish (pike, walleye , perch, whitefish, rainbow trout). Boats and fishing equipment can be rented from local companies. The forests of the surrounding area are rich in mushrooms and berries.
