Calbuco is a Chilean port city in the south of Chile in the region X Region de los Lagos (province Llanquihue) on the coast of the gulf of Ancud. The city is located about 50 km south of Puerto Montt. Calbuco Island is actually part of an archipelago composed of 14 islands.
The origins of the city date back to 1602 when it was founded by Don Francisco Hernandez Ortiz, then called Real Fuerte de San Miguel. In 1603 a small infantry unit was stationed in Calbuco. The troops were often occupied with chilots, the inhabitants of the island of Chiloe. The city itself was on an island.
In 1866, during the Spanish-South American War, the naval battle before Abtao took place nearby. Until 1965, the city was on an island, only then it was connected by a 240 m long bridge to the mainland. 
Today Calbuco lives mainly from fishing and agriculture, Calbuco, located near Puerto Montt and Chiloe, is a place that has a lot to offer visitors. The stunning landscapes and welcoming people are closer than you think.

/ Bus travel from Calbuco to Puerto Montt is made possible thanks to Buses Tepual – Buses Lafit.This is a daily tour with buses that leave every 10 minutes until 10 pm. both back and forth.Departure and return times: From 06:30 a.m. to 22:00 p.m.

Attractions :

  • The main square of Calbuco has a privileged view of the sea, volcanoes, islands and the beautiful Parish Church, which exhibits an image of San Miguel Arcangel brought by the Spaniards in the 16th century.
  • San Miguel Arcangel de Calbuco , It houses an image of San Miguel Arcángel, patron saint of Calbuco, that would have been brought by the Spanish founders in 1603.
  • The Fort of San Miguel, the oldest building in the area, was founded more than 400 years ago by the Spanish colonists themselves, who in those years fled from the destruction of Osorno. This and the pier are some of the main attractions of the area, must-see that you can not miss.
  • Terrazas del amanecer : From Las Terrazas del Amanecer we will have the best views of the Pacific Ocean, then we will go to Caleta La Vega where its Market offers local products, which provide visitors with the most varied flavors of sea and land.
