Coral Bay , is a coastal village in Western Australia located approximately 1,200 km north of Perth, in the Gascoyne Region.
The first Europeans to come to the bay were the sailors on the schooner Maud, who landed in 1884. Around 1896 a wooden pier and a goods depot were built. In 1915 the place was named Mauds Landing. The first house was built in 1933. The village played an important role in the development of the northwest region of Australia as a depot for incoming and outgoing goods, such as wool and sheep, until 1947. The jetty was then dismantled. Coral Bay was named after a hotel in the area in 1968.
The place exists mainly because of the tourism and fishing and consists of 20 houses, a resort hotel, two restaurants and two caravan parks. There is also a backpacker hostel.
Coral Bay thrives on tourism and is best known as a suitable location for snorkeling over the Ningaloo reef.
Access : Coordinates: -23.144722, 113.776389 / Coral Bay is accessible by car via the North West Coastal Highway and Coral Bay Road. Integrity Coach Lines operates bus services between Perth and Broome three times a day. The buses stop at the youth hostel in Coral Bay.
