Jervis Bay is a ocean bay of about 102 square kilometers on the southern coast of New South Wales, Australia, of which is said to have the whitest sand in the world.

Jervis Bay was seen by Lieutenant James Cook aboard the HMS Endeavor on April 25, 1770 and he named it south of Cape St George. In August 1791 Lieutenant Richard Bowen, aboard an Atlantic prisoner, part of the Third Fleet, sailed into the bay and named it in honor of Admiral John Jervis, whom he served.
Approximately 158 square kilometers  of land on both sides of the bay has been identified by BirdLife International as an Important Bird Area because its coastal areas support the largest sub-population of endangered species such as eastern bristlebird, other.

Jervis Bay is well known for sport fishing and scuba diving, with tour operators departing from Huskisson and hobbyists using rented boats from bayside towns and campsites. Popular dive sites include The Labyrinths, Gorgonian Wall, Perpendicular Point, a submerged Fairey Firefly plane, Scallop Banks, Middle Ground, Ten Fathom Reef, and Bowen Island.
Jervis Bay is also known for whale watching, because the migration of these animals, both north and south, can be observed when the herd pass the entrance of the bay, and that they frequently enter the waters protected to rest.
The shallow waters of the bay keep the water warm, and the endless series of beaches and the absence of waves is a paradise for snorkelers. It is also possible to visit several wineries along the way.

  • The Jervis Bay Visitor Information Center is in Huskisson, and is part of the Maritime Museum and Lady Denman Gallery.  Local Council-run visitor information centers are in Nowra and Ulladulla.

  • The whitest sand in the world : Jervis Bay has been recorded as having the whitest sand in the world.
  • The Royal Australian Navy’s HMAS Creswell base is located in the Jervis Territory between Jervis Bay Village and Greenpatch Point.
  • In mid-1797, survivors of the Sydney Cove shipwreck traversed the area on foot, as they undertook an arduous 600-kilometer trek in an attempt to reach Port Jackson, Sydney, only three of them completing the journey.
