Portsea is a seaside town on the Mornington Peninsula in Melbourne, Victoria, a state in southeastern Australia.

Portsea is named after Portsea Island, which belongs to Portsmouth, England. Portsmouth is where the first settlers to Australia left. It is located approximately 95 kilometers (59 mi) southwest of Melbourne’s central business district, on the opposite side of Port Phillip Bay. The suburb is located on the bay itself, but the settlement boundaries extend as far west as Cape Nepean and include part of the Bass Strait coastline. Portsea is the westernmost town on the Mornington Peninsula, adjacent to Sorrento.
