According to an Orthodox legend, an apparition occurred in Kuremäe in the 16th century. An icon is said to have been found later under an old oak. According to today’s thesis, it is said to have been the remains of a chapel of the Woten. Afterwards the place was called “holy” in Estonian.

Russian Orthodox Monastery of the Assumption of Pühtitsa, opening hours: daily from 8:00 to 20:00. - Holy spring and chapel of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary : the chapel of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was installed on the site of the old, wooden one. It is believed that in this place was the appearance of the image of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God.
- Temple in the name of St. Nicholas and St. Arsenius the Great : Nikolo-Arsenievsky cemetery church. Consecrated in 1896. Nearby is a sacred 1000 year old oak tree. The inhabitants of Kuremäe and the inhabitants of the Pühtitsa monastery are buried in the cemetery.
