Løkken is a small town in Vendsyssel in North Jutland, in northwest Denmark.
The oldest settlements in Løkken are from the end of the 17th century, but then the town developed into an important charging point for trade between Vendsyssel and southern Norway, where grain, butter and meat were exchanged for wood and iron. There are still warehouses from this ship trade, which lasted until around 1900.

Løkken also became an important fishing village, and was at times the third largest on the west coast of Denmark. Around 1950, about 50 boats were pulled up on the beach. The fishing community with jetty, boat mooring, signal mast, tarmac and the rescue house, which is now a museum for coastal fishing.
Løkken is one of the most famous seaside resorts in northern Jutland – together with Blokhus, the resort attracts beach holidaymakers from Denmark, Germany and Norway in particular, due to the fact that the beach is almost 20 km long.
The town was originally a fishing village that was successful with boat trade, but today it is a busy tourist and holiday town.Most holiday guests rent one of the numerous summer houses. But there is also a traditional bathing hotel that was opened in 1895.

Highlights :

  • Løkken is known for the fine bathing beach with 485 white bathing houses that are on the beach from May to October. They are privately owned and permits are issued by the local government on the basis of waiting lists. The stand fee is around 280 euros per season. The 19 km long and very wide beach south to Rødhus is open for vehicular traffic all year round. There are also slopes in Blokhus, Grønhøj and Saltum.
  • Løkken Old town,with the old fishermen’s houses / Market Square / Kystmuseum. Small museum displaying old fishing vessels.
  • Løkken Minitown ,Workshop making miniature houses based on local buildings from around 1900 / Rubjerg Knude (10 km north, bus 99). impressing sand dunes and a lighthouse.
  • Faresignalstationen , The danger signal stations were set up in 1889. The initiative came from the fishermen , a good viewpoint.
  • In Løkken, the Wehrmacht built bunkers for the Atlantic Wall in 1942/44. Its ruins are preserved on the north beach, but slipped from the dunes onto the beach in the course of coastal erosion.
