Loop Head is a cape in the northern part of the mouth of the Shannon River. It is located in the west of Clare County in the Republic of Ireland.

The peninsula runs roughly from the Kilkee line, on the Atlantic Ocean, and the swallow area at Moyasta, on the Shannnon, to the southwest to end in the cliffs at the mouth of the Shannon. The larger villages on the peninsula are Carrigaholt, Kilbaha and Cross.

The most extreme point of the peninsula has a striking lighthouse. The 219-meter-high LORAN antenna, proposed in 1992, never came around due to problems with building permits and resistance from the environment.

In 2010, Loop Head is awarded the label European Destinations of Excellence. In 2013, the Irish Times declared the peninsula “Best Holiday Place in Ireland”  and was selected in the category “Best Destination” at the World Responsabile Tourism Awards. The Loop Head Peninsula is finally the only Irish destination listed in the Global Sustainable Top 100 Destinations in 2014 and receives the Gold Medal at the Irish Responsible Tourism Awards in 2015.
