Grotta is a small micro island in Seltjarnarnes. in Iceland, located , west of the capital Reykjavik.
On the island, Grotta Island Lighthouse was built in Grotta in 1897 but the current lighthouse dates from 1947 , It was connected to the electricity network in 1956 and has remained almost unchanged since. Historical records show that, a town was in Grotto and is first mentioned in the records in 1547. In 1703 he was an associate from Nesi. The town was later abandoned, but was built back in the 19th century.
Today Grotta’s surroundings are a popular outdoor area. it can be reached via the dam Grottugrandi at low tide. The island has been under conservation since 1974 because of bird life and must not be entered between May 1st and July 1st. On the island,
The house in Grotta has facilities for primary and kindergarten students and many more. At low tide, the island is connected to the mainland by a 300 meter long nose called Grottugrandi.

Access : Coordinates: 64.166667°, -22.016667° / Grave can be reached at low tide. You can stay in the island on the beach for about 6 hours / The bus, route 11, goes out to Seltjarnarnes and is best to leave the trolley north of Lindarbraut. From there it is about a 15 minute walk to Grotto.
