It was a French missionary, Le Bihan, in 1881 the first European  who saw the waterfall.This waterfall is in the Maletsunyane River, a tributary of the Orange River, a few kilometers outside Semonkong (“the place of smoke”) and 121 km from Maseru.The fall is 192 m high. After the Tugela Falls, it is the highest uninterrupted waterfall in the southern hemisphere.Maletsunyane Falls is a major tourist attraction.

Highlights :

  • Local company offers short and long treks and 4×4 rides through the Maletsunyane Falls area. They also offer abseiling next to the waterfall.
  • Maletsunyane Waterfall were used in particular as a backdrop during the semi-final of season 7 of Beijing Express.
