The fort is of Giridurg type and the height of the fort is 3038 feet above the sea level ,it was built by Peshwa Balaji Vishwanath. The Peshwa intended to use this fort for imprisonment. In 1818, Colonel Prother conquered the fort and brought it under the control of the British, forcing the Marathas to leave Lohgad.
It is characterized by a fort with a very large plateau. The fort can be reached by crossing the plateau, a short distance after that and the Karvi forest, and then climbing the steps dug in the rock. Along the way, a Maruti idol and some water tanks have been dug out of the rock.

Visapur can be visited any time of the year. However, the water flowing through the steps of the north gate attracts the attention of mountaineers. Apart from the rainy season, it is possible to stay at the fort at other times. Meals and snacks are available at the foot of the fort.

Access : Coordinates: 18.7225, 73.49 / The fort is located in Maval taluka, east of Lonavla and south of Malwali railway station.Its distance from Pune is about 60 kms and 110 kms from Mumbai.

Highlights :

  • There are two caves to stay on the fort. Meals should be arranged by you. There are ponds for drinking water on the fort.
  • In the center of the fort are five or seven magnificent water tanks, one of which has a beautiful statue of Maruti with an ornate arch around it. The entire fort has six or seven Maruti idols carved in the rock. There is a Maruti temple on the way to the fort. There are two caves on the side. It can accommodate 30 to 40 people. However, in the rainy season, water is stored in the cave.
  • Arsenal  : On the south bastion of the fort are the remains of a characteristic machine like lime mortar. The device must have been used to mount the cannon and rotate it in different directions. Near the north gate is a large cannon, the symbol of the Tudor dynasty of England (the crown and rose and the English letters ER.
  • Trekking : There are three main routes for trekking at Visapur Fort. The Patan Marg in the north, the second Bhaje Leni Marg, the third Ganesh Khind Marg (Lohgad) in the Ganesh Khind Marg feel like traffic, the fort is considered easy in terms of trekking , it takes two and a half hours to reach the fort.
