The Mantanani Islands are located northwest of Kota Belud, which is approximately two hours’ drive from Sabah’s capital, Kota Kinabalu.  Day trips usually take place here. Mantanani Besar can be reached from Kota Belud by ferry.
The largest island is Mantanani Besar , A little west of it lies the small, uninhabited rocky island of Lungisan , 3 km further to the west lies the uninhabited Mantanani Kecil.
The main island ( “mermaid island” ) is visited by tourists for scuba diving and bird watching, especially dugongs , There are several diving sites here, both for professionals and for beginners who love the underwater world.
While the island has a range of accommodation options from hostels to resorts, guests can also stay with a local home stay in the village!
