Mazunte is a small beach village on the Pacific coast of Oaxaca, Mexico.Mazunte is a quiet place that has been discovered by independent travelers. Mostly sponsored by European backpackers, Mazunte is a very small, rustic and very easy to navigate village. Everything is within easy walking distance. The main street is the Paseo del Mazunte, bordered by some restaurants, the church and the football field. It has four secondary roads all leading to the beach.
Mazunte is famous for its sea turtles. During the first half of the 20th century, there was little population, but this changed when a market for turtle meat and eggs developed,To replace it, ecotourism was based on the conservation of turtles and the development of natural cosmetics.
Mazunte is a 1 kilometer (0.6 mi) stretch of beach with a secluded cove at the western end. Boats on this beach offer tours to Zipolite, Puerto Ángel, Estacahuite, La Mina, La Boquilla, and Ventanilla. . Water sports rentals are also available. The main beach and the cove at the west end have a number of small hotels and restaurants. Most of the accommodations are simple, only a few are more luxurious.All beaches have lifeguards during tourist seasons.
Today Mazunte is a famous beach destination in the state of Oaxaca that has a warm, sub-humid climate and crystal clear and warm waters.
Access : Coordinates: 15.666, -96.556 / located 22 km southwest of San Pedro Pochutla on coastal highway 200, about 10 km east of Puerto Ángel and only 1 km from San Agustinillo and 264 km south of the capital of Oaxaca

- The main attractions, besides the wonderful beach, are the “National Center of Mexican Turtles” and the Cosméticos Naturales de Mazunte laboratory / shop which sells ecological cosmetics.
- Mexican Turtle Center : The idea of promoting sea turtles as an ecotourism base began in the 1970s when turtle hunting in Mazunte and other nearby coastal communities was at its height. An organization to promote the idea was founded at that time, which became a small center in 1985, operated by the National Fisheries Institute and named Daniel León de Guevara.
- Depending on the season and the wather, it is possible to see whales, dolphins, turtles, manta rays and other aquatic species.
