Woudsend (West Frisian Wâldsein) is a village in the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân,  in the Dutch province of Friesland.

Woudsend is originally an agricultural settlement in the area of ​​the Ypecolsga municipality. The independent development as a village dates back to around the year 1000. In 1337 Woudsend was first mentioned. The town had its heyday in the 18th and 19th centuries.Today, Woudsend is a location for water sports. Many boats pass here on their way from Lemmer and Sloten to Hegemer Mar and Sneek.

Access : Coordinates: 52.942778, 5.6275 / The town is located 10 km south of Sneek, between the lakes of Sloten and Fluessen.

Highlights :

  • Part of the village is a protected village face. Characteristic of the village are the nineteen paths that cross the center from east to west
  • Mills :  In and near the village are two mills. The scaffolding mill ‘t Lam is a windmill that is used as a flour mill and hulling mill. The mill dates from the 17th century. The other mill is probably the De Jager from 1718. The scaffolding mill is in use as a sawmill.
  •  St. Michael’s Church,This church is the oldest Roman Catholic church in Friesland / The De Karmel from 1837 refers to the monastery church of the Carmelite monastery, which was located there between 1337-1580. In 1660 the monastery church was replaced.
  • The Former Reformed Church now converted into a house / The former Mennonite Church  / Monument to the Fallen, a war memorial opposite De Karmel.
  • Due to the favorable location of Woudsend between the Sleatmeer Lake and the Hegemer Lake, not far from the Gaasterland forests, the village attracts many water sports enthusiasts.
  • Events : Every two years, the Friese Sleepbootdagen, an event with historic tugboats, takes place in Woudsend
  • Woudsend is located on the route of the Eleven Cities Tour. / Once every two years there is the Shanty Festival in the village.
