Stavoren is a small town on the coast of the IJsselmeer , in the province of Friesland, Netherlands.

Stavoren is the oldest of the eleven Frisian towns. The place was built around the year 900 on a watercourse and gained city rights between 1058 and 1068. In 2011 Stavoren celebrated 950 years of city rights.
Today the place lives primarily from tourism, which is almost entirely oriented towards water sports. Stavoren can be reached by water either via the IJsselmeer or the Johan Friso Canal. There are marinas both on the inland side of the lock (Marina Stavoren Binnenhaven, Gemeentelijke Binnenhaven Stavoren) and on the IJsselmeer (Marina Stavoren Buitenhaven, Oude Haven).
