Plockton is a village in the Scottish Highlands , in the United Kingdom, in the north-west of the country, on the shores of Loch Carron.
The place is located in the Highland Council Area  on the south bank of Loch Carron, a sea loch south of the Applecross Peninsula and north of Kyle of Lochalsh. The village of Plockton, originally called Am Ploc , is first mentioned between 1787 and 1794, when an emissary from the Lord of Seaforth spoke of the need to found a village on the Plockton Peninsula.
In 1786 the area where the village stands was mentioned by John Knox, founder of the British Fishery Society, in The Highlands and Hebrides as a suitable place to create a new fishing center. In 1798 the area was bought by Sir Hugh Innes.With the arrival of Innes, various buildings were built in the village, then called Plocktown, many with farmhouses.
Plockton lies on a small peninsula on a small bay of Loch Carron that opens to the east and is thus shielded from the open sea to the west.
Most of the houses are lined up along the waterfront. Due to its location, the place has no through traffic.The partly whitewashed cottages and palm trees on the promenade are an unusual sight for the Highlands.
The local infrastructure includes three hotels and various bed and breakfasts, Several shops, pubs, restaurants and a post office are also available.
Today, the town is a popular tourist destination, largely due to the filming of the Robert Carlyle TV series Hamish Macbeth, which was well attended by locals.

Access : Coordinates: 57.33801, -5.65231 / Plockton is accessible via the Kyle of Lochalsh Line, the station is on the southern edge of the town. The four pairs of trains on the route connect Plockton with Kyle of Lochalsh and Inverness. There are also several bus routes to Plockton.

  • Plockton Harbour : Traditional Scottish holiday cottages sitting right on the waters edge overlooking Loch Carron in this picturesque Highland village. Across the harbour the views are of white cottages on a craggy point, with the mountains of Wester Ross in the background.

  • West of Plockton is Plockton Airfield, a small airfield built in 1966 with an almost 600 m long asphalt runway.
  • Due to the mild maritime climate, it is possible that a particular New Zealand palm tree can survive here, called the Cordyline australis.
  • Attadale Gardens – Twenty acres of glorious gardens, come and enjoy the peace and tranquillity. / Plockton Bowling Club’s green, the only outdoor bowling green in Skye & Lochalsh.
  • There are nine hole golf courses at Kyle and Lochcarron, and riding is available at Avernish Riding Stables, near Dornie./ The highlight of the year is the annual Plockton Regatta, held for a fortnight starting at the end of July.

Activities : sightseeing / photo opportunities / excursions to the small islands off Plockton, inhabited by seals, are offered in the harbor / Boat Trips – take a wildlife cruise on Loch Carron / Sea Kayaking / Cycling.
