Ort Castle (Schloss Ort in German ) is a Austrian castle on an island in Lake of Traun (Traunsee) connected by a bridge. located in Gmunden in the Austrian state of Upper Austria.

History :  The original castle was founded was founded in 1080 by Hartnid of Ort. Other reconstructions took place in the 13th century, among them, for example, at the initiative of Hartn V. from 1244. In 1344 the castle was bought by Fridrich and Reinprecht I of Wallsee, -only Fridrich was the owner from January 25, 1350-. The castle remained in the possession of the Lords of Wallsee until 1483, when Ort passed to Emperor Friedrich III..Since 1995, the Seeschloss Ort is again owned by the municipality of Gmunden and is available to the public both as a museum and as a venue.

Local legend :
The legend of the giant Erla, who is said to have built the castle out of love for the Traunsee Eixe Blondchen. And from the first historically mentioned owner, the knight Hartneid of place, over the cruel Count Herbestorff, to the Habsburg Archduke Johann Nepomuk Salvator, so many dazzling personality resided here.

A special feature of the castle is the clockwork from 1634, which today still needs to be raised by hand each day.
Today the castle houses the restaurant Orther Stub’n and the shop Souvenir shop Orther Stub’n. In addition, there are often events (concerts, readings) and up to 362 weddings a year.

Access : Coordinates:47.91166713.792222  / by car :  from West autobahn A1 Vienna – Salzburg – Exit Laakirchen West B 144 direction Gmunden or Regau B 145 direction Gmunden, 7 km motorway. / From Germany also via Passau on the A 8 to Knoten Wels, continue on the A8 to the Voralpenkreuz, there on the A 1 in the direction of Salzburg until the aforementioned exits.
from downtown Gmunden you can follow the Scharnsteiner street or the Esplanade beginning at City Hall and going untilthe Toscanapark. The access from the park to the castle is through a long wooden bridge.
