Siargao is an island in the east of the Philippines, which belongs to the Philippine province of Surigao del Norte and is located in the Philippine Sea.
The first record of discovery by Europeans was Bernardo de la Torre, a Spanish navigator on the carrack San Juan de Letrán when he tried to return from Sarangani to Nueva Espana in 1543. In this relationship, it is described as Isla de las Palmas.
The island is part of the large nature reserve Siargao Islands Protected Landscape and Seascape (SIPLAS).The island is surrounded by coral reefs, and there are several small islands with coconuts and other trees around it. In the eastern part of the coral reef, there is a white sand beach with a size of about 200m.
At the end of the 1980s, surfers discovered the “Cloud 9” surfing area at General Luna, which has since become known worldwide. The annual “Siargao Cup” is also held here with international participation.
