Sumba (Pulau Sumba) is an island in Indonesia, located in the archipelago of the Lesser Sunda Islands.

Sumba (Pulau Sumba) is an island in Indonesia, located in the archipelago of the Lesser Sunda Islands.

This volcanic island is part of the Lesser Sunda Islands archipelago , the  island is rich in natural attractions; on its territory there are hidden waterfalls, a lava plateau and the highest point – the dormant stratovolcano Wangameti. The island’s protected areas have been turned into National Parks. There are two of them in Sumba – Manupeu Tarah Daru and Laivangi Wangameti. They are home to rare species of animals – the Timor python, hornbill, crabeater macaque and Sumbian pigeon. Once known as the Wood Island, Sumba is known worldwide for its small horses and its excellent double Ikat cloth. The west of the island (capital Waikabubak) has tombs made of large stones (megaliths) and huts with thatched roofs. Even today, megalithic tombs are still being built for some rich people.
