Targim is a medieval castle-type tower settlement , on the right bank of the Assa River.in the Dzheyrakhsky region of the Republic of Ingushetia.( Ingushetia, is a federal subject of the Russian Federation , located in the North Caucasus region. ) According to ancient legends, the settlement of the Ingush began from the Assinsky Gorge. Here, on the right slope of the Assa River, on the Great Silk Road.
On the territory of the fortress there are 4 combat towers, 4 semi-combat and 16 dilapidated residential towers. A little to the side there are 19 crypts, 2 mausoleums and 5 sanctuaries.
There are four battle towers and more than two dozen semi-combat and residential towers with stone extensions of varying degrees of preservation.
The battle towers reach 30 meters in height – this is the height of a modern ten-story building! In the past, this village was famous for its talented master-builders of battle towers, experienced gunsmiths and dashing warriors-riders.
Nowadays practically deserted, the Targim Valley several centuries ago was a rather influential economic center of Ingushetia.
And although the Targim tower complex today is a place abandoned by people, the towers are still monitored, maintaining their condition, and interesting excursions are organized for tourists.

Access : Coordinates: / Location : Republic of Ingushetia, Dzheyrakhsky district, Gulinskoye rural settlement, s. Targim / Targim can be reached by car along the P-109 road, using the services of local residents or ordering a tour. The tower complex itself is located in the Targim Basin, on the right bank of the Assa River.
/ On the route Dzheyrakh – Vladikavkaz – Nazran, buses and minibuses run 3 times a day

Highlights :

  •  The Targima tower complex includes 24 structures, divided into three main groups: Battle towers – 4 main castles, their height reached 25-30 m (5-6 floors). The defense and guard buildings were fully prepared for the conduct of hostilities – Half-battle towers – 4 buildings suitable for both war and peacetime. Their height is 12-16 m.- Residential towers – 16 structures, in which the Ingush clans lived and managed. The towers were 9-12 m high. –
  •  Nearby there is another medieval settlement called Egikal. The stone town is located on the southern side of Mount Tsey-Loam in the Targim depression.
  •  300 meters from the “Targim” tower complex there is the Christian temple of Albi-Yerdy , ruins and several walls restored to a small height.This temple was built in the 12th century.
  •  A significant area of ​​Targim is occupied by a necropolis (another name – “solar burial grounds”) of 14 above-ground family crypts.
