Lake Crowley is a reservoir in the U.S. state of California.Ιs known more for being an excellent trout spot than for its mysterious mineral formations.

Α strange geological phenomenon is revealed on the East Side of the Lake, some amazing helical columns.
The columns were initially seen as simple oddities, but in 2015, geologists at the University of Berkeley established that they were the result of water and vapor from melting snow.
After the dam was completed in 1941, strange columns, reaching 6.1 m in height, were discovered along the eastern bank. These are rocky cylinders connected at the top by arches, gradually released by wave action, which have eroded the more malleable rock enclosing these structures. The shape and structure of the columns indicate that they were formed as a result of volcanic activity. More than 760 thousand years ago, continuous eruptions of an ancient stratovolcano took place in this place, the columns are grouped into clusters and differ somewhat in shape and size. Depending on the mineral composition, these natural structures are white, gray or reddish-orange in color.
Whether hiking or biking, there are plenty of places to see and visit around Crowley Lake except this unusual geological formation,
