Nyahururu Falls or Thomson's Falls in central Kenya
Nyahururu Falls or Thomson’s Falls is a 74 m high waterfall in Kenya located on the Ewaso Ng’iro River, which drains from the Aberdare Mountains. It is located near the municipality of Nyahururu, in Laikipia County, at 2,360 meters above sea level.

Thomson was the first European to reach the waterfall and named it Thomson Falls.
The surrounding area is partly part of the Nyahururu Forest. The falls are an important economic source of income for the neighboring town of Nyahururu. There is a fee to access the waterfall. The waterfall is a four-hour drive from Nairobi.

Highlights :

  • The falls were used as a backdrop in the TV movie The Man in the Brown Suit (1988).
  • The mist feeds off the dense forest nearby. Visitors can see the falls from above, but there is also a path to the bottom of a ravine. Upstream of the falls are some of the largest hippo pools in Kenya.
  • Scottish naturalist Joseph Thomson was the first European to reach the falls in 1883, so he named it after his father. He was also the first European to travel from Mombasa to Lake Victoria in the 1880s.
