Warnemunde is a seaside resort and a district north of Hanseatic city of Rostock, to which it is administratively attached. It lies at the mouth of the Warnow, which gave it its name, and overlooks the Baltic Sea. Its long and wide beaches are among the largest in Germany. This small town is known for its small fishing port, the sale of fresh fish live boats and its promenade lined with restaurants.

For centuries Warnemunde was mainly a small harbor and fishing village, On June 26, 1886 the railway connection to Rostock and Berlin and the mail steamer connection to Gedser in Denmark were opened, first with the paddle steamers Kaiser Wilhelm and King Christian. 1903 opened the new station beyond the old stream and the railway ferry Warnemunde-Gedser, which also carried cars from 1926. Since 1971 the Hotel Neptun is located directly on the Baltic Sea beach.
Today the Warnemünde has become a place of pilgrimage for visitors from the Scandinavian countries. the widest sandy beach on the German Baltic Sea coast.
Every summer, the Warnemunde Week and the Hanse Sail take place in the district, each attracting around one million visitors. In addition, Warnemunde is Germany’s most important cruise port.
