Dunnet Head is a peninsula on the north-east coast of Scotland and forms the northernmost point of the British mainland.
The peninsula lies to the east of the burgh of Thurso, and on clear days, affords excellent views of the Stroma Islands to the east, and Hoy and the Orkney Islands, 15km to the north, across the Pentland Firth. At Dunnet Head Lighthouse and minor fortifications built during the Second World War to protect the naval base at Scapa Flow, including a radar station and a bunker used by the Royal Observer Corps during the Cold War. Burifa Hill, on Dunnet Head, was the site of the main monitoring station of the GEE Northern Chain of Navigation Radio Stations during the Second World War. There was a large range of artillery on Dunnet Head during the World War.
Dunnet Head is home to Dunnet Head Nature Reserve and many puffins. from a viewing platform visitors can watch birds in the neighboring 300-foot (91 m) cliffs.
