Emerald Lake is a lake located in Yoho National Park at an elevation of 1,300 meters, in the province of British Columbia, Canada.
The first Europeans to discover the lake was the explorer Tom Wilson, who discovered the lake by chance in 1882. His group of horses escaped, and as he followed in their footsteps, he first entered the lake valley, and was amazed at the beauty of the lake.
The lake is known for its amazing turquoise color of water, caused by chalk powder, and is named after this color . The turquoise color is especially noticeable in July when the lake waters are enriched with snowmelt water from the surrounding mountains.
This lake is the largest of the 61 lakes and pools in Yoho Park, and is undoubtedly the main attraction of Yoho National Park. And it is because its intense blue color has made this lake the jewel of the Rocky Mountains of Canada.
