The Glacier Express is a tourism-oriented express train service on the rail network of the Rhaetian Railway and the Matterhorn-Gotthard Railway in Switzerland. It connects the trendy alpine resorts of St. Moritz and Zermatt.
The first Glacier Express departed in 1930. It was originally operated by three railway companies: Brig-Visp-Zermatt Ban (BVZ), Fourka Oberalp Ban (FO), and RhB. Since 2003, the train has been operated by RhB and a newly formed company, MGB, which emerged from the merger of BVZ and FO.

the heights of the places traveled in Zermatt are 1,604 m above sea level, in Visp 658 m above sea level, in the Furka base tunnel 1564 m above sea level. (old Furka summit tunnel 2160 m above sea level), in Andermatt 1447 m above sea level , on the Oberalppass 2033 m above sea level , in Chur 585 m above sea level, in the Albula tunnel 1820 m above sea level, in Samedan 1721 m above sea level. and in St. Moritz 1775 m. above sea level.
Travel from Engadine to Matterhorn (or back) in 7 and a half hours. There are faster alternatives, but the Glacier Express is the most enjoyable experience.
Currently, the Glacier Express is especially popular with tourists from Germany, Japan and India. the Grand Swiss Canyon up to 400 meters deep, the Oberalp Pass at an altitude of 2033 meters and, of course, the mighty Matterhorn.For a significant part of its journey, it passes through the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Rhaetian Railway, in the cultural landscape of Albula and Bernina. The Glacier Express is considered the slowest in the world, but this is the absolute advantage for the visitors.
