Malá Strana ( The Lesser Town of Prague ) is a district in the center of the city of Prague ,in Czech Republic.
Malá Strana located on the western bank of the Vltava between Prague Castle and the Old Town. During the Middle Ages, Mala Strana was a district of the German minority in the city, while also housing numerous luxurious residences and palaces, in contrast to the right bank of the Vltava, where mainly bourgeois and Czechs (Bohemians) resided.
In Mala Strana is the forest and the Petrin Tower, a miniature of the Eiffel Tower, while the famous Czech writer Jan Neruda was born and lived in this neighborhood, whose name was given to the street of his residence.
The neighborhood is nicknamed the pearl of the baroque, due to the great influence of this style in its palaces and streets. The Italian influence is notable, there was an Italian neighborhood from which Vlašska Street received its name.
Today The picturesque neighborhood has numerous Renaissance or Baroque palaces, churches , parks, and viewpoints.
