The Pikes Peak  also known as Grand Peak, James Peak or Long Mountain  is a peak in the Front Range, in the center of the state of Colorado and in the eastern part of the Rocky Mountains (United States) , It is one of the 53 mountains of Colorado whose peaks rise higher than 14,000 feet and thus belong to the so-called Fourteeners (fourteen thousanders) The mountain is named in honor of American explorer Zebulon Pike, who was unable to reach the summit.
According to the United States Geographic Names Information Service, its summit has a height of 4303 m (14,127 ft) .The first known ascent was on July 14, 1820 the botanist Edwin James and two companions who belonged to an expedition headed by Stephen Long
In 1858 gold was found in the area, Pike’s Peak or Bust became the battle cry of the prospectors.On July 4, 1961, the mountain was recognized as a National Historic Landmark, on October 15, 1966, it was included in the National Register of Historic Places with the number 66000245

Pikes Pikes also served as inspiration for the creation of  the development of the Paramount Pictures logo.Here is one of the most important US weather stations. In 1899, Pikes Peak became a place for experiments conducted by electrical engineer, inventor Nikola Tesla.
The view from here was the inspiration for Katherine Lee Bates’ famed poem, America the Beautiful.
From May 24th to September 15th, at Mile 7, 13, and 16, you’ll find ample parking and free, frequent shuttles that depart from Devils Playground every five minutes to take visitors to the summit.

The Pikes is located within the Pike National Forest, a park of the United States Forest Service, of 4478 km².

The Barr Trail is a trail of 21 km in length that ends in the Pikes. It is used for the Pikes marathon, which runs from the base to the peak and back to the base./ The first Pikes Peak Hill Climb was promoted by Spencer Penrose, who had converted the narrow carriage road into the much wider Pikes Peak Highway.

Access : Coordinates: /Pikes Peak is about 70 miles  south of Denver ,  and the entrance to the Pikes Peak Highway are located West of Colorado Springs in Cascade.  / enter 5089 Pikes Peak Highway, Cascade, CO 80809 , Off Highway 24: – Head West past Manitou Springs. Turn Left at the First Light (Fountain Ave) into Cascade. You will run into the Pikes Peak Gateway.

Loveland is a ski area located 52 miles west of Denver on the Continental Divide / Driving your car the scenic Pikes Peak Highway, a spectacular toll road that winds its way up the mountain. With the Pikes Peak Summit Project underway / Jeep rides , Bus and Shuttle service to reach the top of Pikes Peak. / cycling up Pikes Peak.

Events : Pikes Peak Marathon , Every year there is a marathon to the summit and down again, which runs on the Barr Trail. /  The mountain race Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
