Icarai Beach is a beach located in the Icarai neighborhood, in the municipality of Niteroi ( Niteroi is a city in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. called “The Smile City”- Cidade Sorriso, Niteroi , is one of the great Brazilian summer destinations ) , in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Icarai Beach is the most famous beach in the city and It houses two rock formations that are landmarks of the city: Pedra de Itapuca and Pedra do Indio, as well as two important art deco buildings: the Icarai Cinema and the Rectory of the Fluminense Federal University. It is situated in Guanabara Bay. It usually hosts public events, such as the traditional New Year’s fireworks show.
On the boardwalk that surrounds its shore there are several almond trees planted to provide a cooler and more pleasant environment for its users.
From Icarai you can see the Indian Rock, Itapuca Rock and a beautiful view of the city of Rio de Janeiro and its contours of Corcovado with Christ the Redeemer up there and Sugar Loaf. Locals joke that the “best” of Icarai is the view of Rio de Janeiro. The beach has fine sand, many coconut and almond trees, very characteristic of the region.
Icarai is a leisure and tourism center of the city and hosts major events throughout the year.
