The town of Spello is known for the Pinturicchio frescoes of the early 16th century.
Spello is a small town in the Umbria region, in central Italy . It is located at the foot of Mount Subasio.The city is around 5 km from Foligno and 35 from Perugia.

The city has a pronounced medieval character. Under the Romans, it was called Hispellium. In the Middle Ages, the city belonged to the Duchy of Spoleto, and then was included in the Papal State. He was also under the rule of the feudal clan of Balloni, and at some time – a free commune.
The ramparts still surrounding Spello are one of the finest examples of Roman ramparts in central Italy.
The city, very densely populated and built in stone, still has a medieval aspect. The ramparts, built on Roman foundations, include several ancient doors, some of Roman origin.
Today Spello is a popular tourist destination. In addition to being counted among the most beautiful villages in Italy, it is part of the National Association of olive Oil Cities.

Spello is on the SS75, it comes from Perugia (32 km) and goes to Foligno (approx. 10 km). / By train from Rome you can change in Cortona-Terontola and get to the  train station Spello. From northern Italy you can get to Spello via Florence in the direction of Foligno,

  •  Ancient Town Hall, Piazza della Repubblica. Built in 1272 it was completely rebuilt in the second half of the 16th century
  •  Parts of the Roman city walls are particularly well preserved in the area of ??the Porta Urbica
  •  Rocca – the castle of Cardinal Albornoz has been destroyed except for a tower, some walls and structures.
  •  Porta Venere – antique double gate system with three arches each and inner courtyard / Porta Montanara – medieval gate at the north end of the wall ring
  •  Porta Urbica  : single-arched city gate from Roman times / Porta Consolare : the most important gate in the city, dates from the from Roman times
  •  Santa Maria Maggiore, Cappella Baglioni, Adoration of the Shepherds by Pinturicchio / S. Martino – small Romanesque church / S. Ventura – Chapel of a pilgrim hospital, 13th century.
  •  Cappella Tega – 14th century chapel, frescoes by Nicolo Alunno (controversial, 1461) / S. Maria Maggiore – Collegiate Church, completed in 1285 and enlarged in 1644 / Cappella Baglioni with frescoes by Pinturicchio (around 1500), frescoes in the church by Perugino (1521),
  •  pulpit by Simone da Campione (1545) / S. Lorenzo – Church built around 1120 / S. Maria di Vallegloria – Church and monasterium with a facade in Romanesque forms.
  •  Convento di Cappuccini – Capuchin monastery; Romanesque facade of the Church of S. Severino in the monastery courtyard (1180
  •  Palazzo Comunale (Vecchio) – built around 1270 / Fountain in Piazza Repubblica with coat of arms of Pope Julius III, created around 1550 / S. Claudio – Romanesque church, late 12th century.
  •  The town of Spello is known for the Pinturicchio frescoes of the early 16th century. The author was inspired by the New Testament to create this masterpiece. There are frescoes in the Chapel of Ballion in the church of Santa Maria Maggiore. / S. Maria della Rotonda.

Events : The L’infiorata di Spello festival takes place on the Italian Corpus Christi weekend. / The patron saint of the village is St. Felix. The holiday is annually celebrated on May 18.
