Tapolca is a small city in western Hungary in the Veszprém County.

The town of Tapolca is located in the western part of Hungary. The city is about 170 km west of the capital Budapest. The town is located in the western part of the Pannonian Plain and is about 10 km from Lake Balaton, at the foot of the Bakony Mountain.
The city is famous for its karst caves and the geologically rare underground lake in the Tavash cave, discovered in 1902.

Highlights :

  • One of the city caves, Tavash, is famous not only for its beautiful views. Since 1981, the cave located under the city hospital and discovered in 1925 has been used for medicinal purposes since 1981
  • With the Nyirádi Motorsport Center there is a race track in a former bauxite mine in Nyirád, not far from Tapolca, where, among other things, between 2006 and 2013: a round of the FIA European Rallycross Championship was held annually.
